Sarcasm.. we like it.
hello home slice_

Have you ever thought, 'ignorance is bliss', does the tiresome search for new worldly exhilaration and experience, just to discharge a few feel-good chemicals in your brain leave you in a state of depression with the frank realisation, "you can't do it all"? Oblivion is the answer! Living the life of a token Bogan - finding that same brain tingling exhilaration doing burnouts, and hollering at girls. This ignorance equals contentment, and that contentment is happiness. So don your 80’s sunnies, wear some gadgets, listen to some funk metal and embrace boganisim, it’ll make you happy.

Oh foof! foof you!

Walk into any generic computer and gadget retailer looking for a laptop bag that isn't a daggy pleather handbag or an overpriced wetsuit and you'll come out forlorn and despondent.

However, you could always just go and get foofed! Yes I mean it. foofshop.com make great looking, ethically hand made garments for your laptop or igadget, they are carbon neutral too. Think Japanese cottons, widewale corduroy, and 100% Irish tweed comforting your little Mac friend. We have test driven one, and I'm pretty sure it polishes my lappy when there is nothing else for it to do.

OAKLEY FROGSKINS. Oh yeah, they're back

Oakley got it oh-so-right back when they were a mere garage company 20-something years ago, gaining instant fashionista street cred with the original 1985 Frogskins. They were the shiz in 80's and early 90's style - anyone who was anyone either had a pair or wanted a pair. In a move that says, 'Yes, our first shades were our coolest yet', Oakley are re-issuing these bad boys of retro eyewear.

As of now, limited numbers of shades will be sold in Adelaide through The Snow & Surf Co. on Rundle St, and once supplies are gone, they're gone forever! So if you wanna get your mitts on a pair, get on it soon.

RRP $149.95

Nano's is ready to go

Hutt St is home to a great little spot called Nano's. It's earned itself a great rep for good quality, freshly made, quick and easy coffee/breakfast/lunch. But Nano's is shifting it's quaint little Hutt St establishment to a much larger hustle and bustle on Ebenezer Place. Will the established patrons follow the move? Will Nano's loose some of its 'nanoness'? Let's hope not... Nano's close their Hutt St doors mid October then re-open on Ebenezer Place in November.

Remember Muxtape?

File sharing is a dirty dirty word. It rips off multi-millionaire has beens like Metallica and actively encourages the sharing of interesting independent music. In fact it is so pervasive and despicable it raises the profile of bands touring long distances in beaten up Ford Bedfords and living off a diet of beer (if they're lucky) and soggy microwaved Hero rolls. These strugglers, tour for the kicks and the music, not because Sony BMG tell them too. Arguably, it even raises concert ticket sales for successful acts such as has-been-Hetfield.

The RIAA shut down muxtape.com, a neat community of fellow music lovers that enabled sharing of a mixture of tracks, all in the name of finding new tunes. Just like when your friend would cram a great new album or a thoughtful mix on 90 minutes of tape.

It is back! But albeit in a vastly different form. The RIAA and major labels may have won the battle, but the people will win the war.
Presenting our resident music man Nick's brilliant muxtape! Oh, I mean mixtape :(

Something Old...
Dive For Your Memory by The Go-Betweens
Did The Go-Betweens ever write a bad song? The correct answer is no, and yet they are still criminally underrated at home and abroad. Robert Forster’s touching ode to his relationship with former partner and Go-Betweens drummer Lindy Morrisson can only be described as beautiful.

Something New...
In The New Year by The Walkmen
The New York City group has truly hit their stride with the first single from their latest release You & Me. Defined by Walter Martin‘s strained and billowing vocals, In The New Year will send shivers down your spine.

Something Borrowed...
No Pause by Girl Talk
Some call it stealing, some call it art, we call it down right infectious! The enigma that is Girl Talk features the likes of Missy Elliott, Run DMC and Jimi Hendrix on this tune from Feed the Animals. But just wait for the close when Marshall Mathers’ how-to guide for nightclubbing is wiped all over your favourite MacBook commercial.

Something Blue...
Blue Thunder by Galaxie 500
Pixies? Sonic Youth? My Bloody Valentine? You all know them and love them. Galaxie 500’s stunning dream pop emerged in the same era, but to so much less fanfare. Blue Thunder combines their trademark hushed vocals, sincere guitars, immersing effects and sing-a-long choruses into one gorgeous pop package.

SA Waste / God God Dammit Dammit

Bubbling deep below a very shallow surface of trendy indie mediocrity are rare things called 'real bands'. These are the bands that don't rip off the Strokes fashion sense seven years on, while doodling about in riffs of poor imitation of bands like the Arctic Monkeys. These mega bands are fine, but imitation, whilst flattering, is always transparent.

Like any scene, there are always poseurs that wish to jump on the bandwagon named 'the rise of indie', which long ago tragically became a neat marketable genre instead of a DIY ethos. Our city isn't immune but lets be happy because there are still real bands out there still carrying their ideals, but you'll have to get off your ass and look.

So let's take this opportunity to introduce some of these rare species, the pure and marvellous punk of S.A. Waste and the ambitious gravelly soul-funk-punk-metal-psychedelia(WTF?) of God God Dammit Dammit.

Rundle lantern lights up

The event is penned as being the biggest since the firing up of the LHC by our European buddies. One big red button will finally be pressed, bringing to life 17,952 LEDs run through 1496 control units to create 16 million colours onto the 748 aluminium panels of the rundle street lantern.

Broadcasting will then commense from dusk till midnight 7 days a week for all to look up in amazement and wonder.

But the real fun will happen in December when the tight fisted ACC will finally open up their image system to the public for submissions on the big screen. I wonder if any home slice artists might get a call up.. hmmm.

I'm generally excited about the project, I mean it is a pretty big art project for Adelaide.. and I guess you could almost call it street art.. but my only hang up is the price tag and on-going maintenance of the system.

It cost Adelaide $2 million dollars to build and then maintenance will be a further $75,000 per year.. which could buy a hell of a lot of art supplies for Adelaide's budding street art scene.

Lets just hope this new found open wallet for Adelaide art projects extends to smaller initiatives by inspired young kids for the rest of the streets that are usually left cold, dark and forgotten.

When: Friday October 24th 6.15 - 10pm
