Rundle lantern lights up
The event is penned as being the biggest since the firing up of the LHC by our European buddies. One big red button will finally be pressed, bringing to life 17,952 LEDs run through 1496 control units to create 16 million colours onto the 748 aluminium panels of the rundle street lantern.
Broadcasting will then commense from dusk till midnight 7 days a week for all to look up in amazement and wonder.
But the real fun will happen in December when the tight fisted ACC will finally open up their image system to the public for submissions on the big screen. I wonder if any home slice artists might get a call up.. hmmm.
I'm generally excited about the project, I mean it is a pretty big art project for Adelaide.. and I guess you could almost call it street art.. but my only hang up is the price tag and on-going maintenance of the system.
It cost Adelaide $2 million dollars to build and then maintenance will be a further $75,000 per year.. which could buy a hell of a lot of art supplies for Adelaide's budding street art scene.
Lets just hope this new found open wallet for Adelaide art projects extends to smaller initiatives by inspired young kids for the rest of the streets that are usually left cold, dark and forgotten.
When: Friday October 24th 6.15 - 10pm
Where: Cnr Rundle St & Pultney St
